We’re looking for creatives engaged in social justice and liberation work who need dedicated time and space to focus on their practice.

The application process is designed to ensure mutual fit—we want this residency to be generative for everyone.

We strive to keep the process simple and welcoming. We especially welcome BIPOC, queer, and other marginalized applicants.

What to expect after you apply:

  • Submit your application using the form below
  • We’ll review your application and get back to you within 2-3 weeks
  • If it seems like a good fit, we’ll schedule a phone or Zoom call to discuss specifics and make sure this will work for both of us
  • We may ask for references during our conversation

Before you start filling out this application, please consult the site calendar and write down your preferred dates. In addition, we ask that you look at the relevant sections in the FAQs page. By submitting an application, you will be added to our mailing list.

This will be our primary communication medium so make sure it is typed correctly!
If you want, include your phone number. If outside the USA and Canada please include a WhatsApp or Signal number, including country code.
Optionally include your website.
Optionally include any social media handles you have, especially public ones.
Please consult the calendar for availability. Give us two dates (between two and four weeks) or a range of dates and your preferred length of stay, e.g. March 15-March 30 or April 1-April 15; or three weeks in April or May.
Please provide a short (maximum 500 words) proposal for what you want to work on throughout your time at the Lavender Residency, including why you are applying for this residency at this time. If you are applying with a collaborator, please include one proposal for your shared project. Also let us know how you intend to use or continue your work after the residency and how it connects with your community.
A bio of yourself with any information you want us to know about you—your background, education, practice, prior publications, vision, etc. Include any community organizations or projects that you are actively engaged in. If you're applying with a collaborator include their bio here as well.
The Lavender Residency does not charge a fee. If you are applying for financial assistance (in the form of a travel grant and/or a weekly stipend) please tell us a little about your financial situation and what you would need. Assistance funds are very limited and not guaranteed. Your acceptance to the residency will not be affected by your financial position.
